Prior to entering private practice in 1991, Jim Hughes was an Assistant District Attorney for Oklahoma County In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  In addition to prosecuting general felonies, white-collar crime cases and general misdemeanors, a substantial portion of his time was devoted to the prosecution of narcotics related offenses through the Oklahoma County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force.  The cases ranged from Racketeering, Conspiracy and Trafficking in Illegal Drugs, to cases involving simple possession of controlled dangerous substances.  The experiences gained have enabled Jim Hughes to better understand the interaction between law enforcement and the prosecution and utilize the information to defend clients charged with such criminal offenses.

 

In particular, issues involving the search or seizure of a person, place or thing have become an area of special attention for Jim Hughes.  He has been a lecturer at Continuing Legal Education Seminar's on numerous occasions, totaling 30-40 hours of lectures on the topic and related areas of the law.

 

Jim Hughes has lectured on behalf of Oklahoma Bar Association and the Oklahoma Judicial Conference on the topic of search and seizure.  In addition, he has also presented seminars for the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Oklahoma County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and was invited to participate in a presentation to a constitutional law class at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Jim Hughes has also lectured on fourth amendment issues at the request of various law enforcement agencies.
